the containers have arrived, have been emptied

so, carrie reports to me that the local movers she hired in manchester have unloaded the UPack containers from ABF, and the containers have been removed.

if you don’t know what i’m talking about, we moved in these (well, we only needed 2 of the 3):

containers

all in all it was a positive experience. they drop them off, you get 3 business days to load them (which meant 5 real days for us – get them delivered mid-week and the weekend is free). they pick them up, and take them to your new place. after you arrange a drop-off date/time, you get 3 business days to unload them also. they can store them, too, if you don’t need them delivered right away.

we’ve previously been the victims of one of those “we loaded your stuff and now it weighs twice what we estimated so we want thousands of dollars extra or you don’t get your stuff back” scams, and sadly it was by representatives of a nationally-known moving company that shall remain nameless here bUt i might hiNt at theIr name creaTivEly, eD.

this is much better. i got to pack everything, i would have unpacked everything (but i’m back in seattle) so carrie employed some good local fellows to carry everything up to the 2nd floor, we paid a flat fee per container, and if anything is broken — it’s my fault.

travel companions

these were my compatriots on the first trip back east. 3111 miles in the ranger with these two. thank goodness they slept most of the time. here’s kelly looking very well-adjusted:

and here’s nora, when she decided not to wait for kelly to move — she just plopped down on top of him and they both fell asleep.

more about work…

so, i’m not exactly certain why i said i’d comment on this later – but here we go. i gave notice, in 2 weeks i’m done working @ WaMu. it’s been almost 5 years, and there have been good and bad moments of course.

mostly, i think i’ve enjoyed seeing the evolution of online financial management applications over the years. i wish i could talk about the next generation — the one i’m building right now (for the next 2 weeks, anyway.) but i can’t talk about it yet. just rest assured – that it will be beautiful, intuitive, and FAST.

today: gave notice, drank much.

so, this is it. i can finally talk publicly about our plans. to all the 3 people that read my blog (hi mom, hi ma, hi hon!)

anyway. today i gave notice, in two weeks time i will no longer be an employee of the huge corporate overlord bank that i currently work for. i’ll comment about that later.

yay! the spammers love me.

so, the spammers decided to send emails out with @mikeyboy.com domain names as the return address. if this is your first time reading mikeyboy.com due to one of these emails – congratulations! you found my mundane weblog about random boring crap that happens to me.

but i didn’t email you about viagra or stock tips. sorry.

stone cold!

yeah, here’s what i’ve been doing for the past week. i even managed to grievously injure myself in the process! read through to see all the progress.

our new garage door

so, we purchased a garage door. it was a demo unit at a local door store called, “the door house.” their retail store is painted purple with multi colored stripes and accents. guess what the demo door we purchased looks like?

our new garage door - needs paint

about the weather

this has been a summer for wacky weather in western washington. we went through a 2 week period of well above average temperatures, followed by a week of clouds, fog, and rain.

we usually have a couple of warm spells in the summer (up into the 90’s) but the typical summer here is highs in the mid 70’s, dry, and sunny. lows at night in the 50s. repeat.

182.6 – leveling off

just a quick update on the weight thing. i’ve been in the mid 180’s for a couple months now. it fluctuates with activity level and what i’ve eaten in particular, but in general, that’s where i’m at. this morning was 182.6, but, i shoveled 3 yards of rock yesterday evening.

i think this is where i’ll be at for a while. what i eat & drink is sustainable (yes, beer is included. if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be sustainable.) the only thing that will differ, is when the house is finished, i’ll need to take up a hobby that keeps my activity level up.
