while we were in maine last month, we visited the owls head transportation museum.
one of the pieces on display was a 1935 Stout Scarab. a handbuilt car of which only a handful were ever produced. it was ridiculously expensive for the time.
i finally remembered to look it up – get this. rear engine, cab-forward driving position. flexible seating with a small table that can be deployed. unit-body construction. four wheel independent suspension.
what was that year again? 1935.

so, i spent about 5 hours shoveling today, between our driveways and walks, plus the driveway at the house where we’ve been storing our extraneous vehicle(s). i still like snow better than rain. slightly.

this past Sunday, we decided to partake in some recreation, New England style. we drove up to Mt. Washington, in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains.
the day started with bagels and a nice drive through Goffstown and Dunbarton. when we reached I-93, we were nearly run off the road several times by careless drivers from New Jersey. welcome to leaf-peeping season in New England!
was working on the new office today when i saw the mounted officers coming down the street. was enough to garner a bit of curiosity. the event? they opened the new police sub-station kitty corner across the street this afternoon.
so, i finally found (after remembering to look for) an explanation of this “manch vegas” stuff.
it doesn’t make me more of a fan. i did chuckle at the idea of “manchhattan” however. (perhaps manchalo?)
urban dictionary expands the definition to explain that manchester is full of wannabes, malls, and a barely acceptable substitute for night-life. personally, i would just call that “America.”
