about the weather

this has been a summer for wacky weather in western washington. we went through a 2 week period of well above average temperatures, followed by a week of clouds, fog, and rain.

we usually have a couple of warm spells in the summer (up into the 90’s) but the typical summer here is highs in the mid 70’s, dry, and sunny. lows at night in the 50s. repeat.

yes, this is what the “rains all the time” propagandists don’t want me to tell you, because now you’ll want to move here. the “dry season” however only lasts from around July 5th through October 1st. the “rainy season*” occupies the bulk of the calendar, where we can expect gray clouds and drizzle every day.

* i laughed when i first heard “the rainy season” referring to our climate here. it played back in my mind like Lorne Greene narrating for New Wilderness… “the rainy season, settles over the Serengeti. all the animals seek shelter.”

182.6 – leveling off

just a quick update on the weight thing. i’ve been in the mid 180’s for a couple months now. it fluctuates with activity level and what i’ve eaten in particular, but in general, that’s where i’m at. this morning was 182.6, but, i shoveled 3 yards of rock yesterday evening.

i think this is where i’ll be at for a while. what i eat & drink is sustainable (yes, beer is included. if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be sustainable.) the only thing that will differ, is when the house is finished, i’ll need to take up a hobby that keeps my activity level up.

Rocks!

quick quiz: which garden tool will i be spending the next few days with?

Rocks!

sadly, not my hoe.

sneak preview: kitchen

okay, here’s a sneak preview of the kitchen. the marble & backsplash have 3 coats of sealer, so it’s essentially done.

kitchen counters

for those that have seen the kitchen “before” you know this is a big deal. heh.

50 days.

so, call us crazy….

you’re crazy!

thanks. carrie and i have a trip planned for august 7th. we thought – wouldn’t it be great to have the house projects DONE by then?

we’ve got 50 days, folks. starting …. NOW!

back in seattle again

new photo of me & falconwe arrived back in seattle yesterday afternoon, after a just-under-1-week trip to manchester, nh and the boston area. “a good time was had by all” as the kids say (and i’ve probably said about every trip i’ve blogged about here, ever.) falcon was happy to see us, of course.

i guess, if a good time wasn’t had, why would we keep doing this? or why would i bother telling you about it?
